Not content to give up the spotlight to the NFL Draft, the NCAA Tournament has big news of its own. While March Madness could not be farther away at this point, there’s big news concerning the threatened expansion of the greatest thing ever invented in sports. Yes, the NCAA tournament is going to get bigger; however, it’s only going to expand by three more games, rising from 65 to 68. Now, rather than one play-in game, there’s going to be four play-in games to determine the 16 seeds in every first round match-up.
With that slight bad comes some good! First and foremost, it’s not the threatened 96-team expansion. Making the NCAA tournament still means something. Secondly, it also means expanded tournament coverage. CBS will still get the final rounds as they have since 1983, but TNT, TBS, and TruTV will all get a piece of the college action, meaning every game from the frenetic first two rounds of the tournament will be televised. Finally, fans will be able to pick and choose what games they want to watch, rather than live with CBS’s programming choices!
