Charles Olsen had himself a serious prize. The black bear he shot weighed in at a staggering 707 pounds, making it the largest trophy ever taken during Pennsylvania’s annual three-day bear-hunting season. Unfortunately for Charles, fish and game officials were waiting for him. As it turns out, he’d hunted the gigantic bear illegally, and the week before bear season started wildlife officials saw his truck parked in the forest, loaded down with pastries. The delicious pastries didn’t pass the smell test.
“Being that we were so close to bear season, seeing that person drive by with an unusual amount of pastries was like watching an individual go down a row of parked vehicles testing each handle to see if it would open,” said arresting officer Cory Bentzoni. “Something just didn’t seem right.” The 39-year-old Olsen, from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, was fined a staggering $7000 for his poaching, and could lose his hunting license for up to 3 years.
If he really wanted to catch a bear, he should’ve put out some beer. Bears love beer! He can try again in a few years when he gets his hunting privileges back.
