I’ve done my wonderful, heartwarming story for the day, so now it’s time to get creepy. Not just normal creepy, either, we’re talking extra creepy. The Cockroach Hall of Fame, located in extermination business The Pest Shop, is one of the weirdest things you’ll ever see. Inside the Hall of Fame are exhibits featuring dead, taxidermied roaches dressed like celebrities ranging from Marilyn Mon-roach to Liberace and, of course, Elvis. This isn’t PopFi’s first bug art show, but it is the strangest.
The Cockroach Hall of Fame is the demented brainchild of The Pest Shop’s owner, Michael Bodhan, who sought to bring some extra attention to his business in Plano, Texas, while also educating folks on what roaches like and how to get rid of roaches (or not get them in the first place). There’s also bug-related snacks like flavored fried worms, dioramas involving roaches like the Com-Bates Motel, inspired by the movie Psycho, and (of course) displays of live Madagascar hissing cockroaches.
Of course, it could’ve been a lot worse. There are much larger and scarier bugs out there than roaches. If you’ll excuse me, I have to go scour myself with steel wool in an attempt to rid myself of the creepy-crawlies (that I gave myself)
