Venus Williams is a fashionista. She’s got a degree in fashion, she owns and operates her own clothing line EleVen, and her interior design company (V Starr Interiors) that designed the inside of the athlete housing during New York City’s bid for the 2012 Olympics. So, to say she has a sense of fashion is putting it mildly. Some have even speculated that her outside interests were harming her ability to win on the court (which sounds crazy when you consider she’s won 20 Grand Slam titles and 3 Olympic gold medals). However, her most recently noteworthy outfit, a dress inspired by French can-can girls of the 19th Century, didn’t stop her from bulldozing the overmatched Patty Schnyder 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the 2010 French Open.
This outfit, for a tennis outfit, is kind of crazy. I mean, she’s wearing a nude-colored body suit underneath a ruffly skirt, lace top, and black and red corset-style top. It looks like she’s going to a costume party, but for whatever reason, she seems to be playing better than ever. When you win tournaments, you can wear whatever crazy outfit you want (see the career of Andre Agassi prior to the late 90’s).
