Charles Zevallos is kind of the Amazon Basin’s version of Bill Clinton.  The politician, currently running for office in remote Maynas, Peru, has made a tradition of trade.  He gives out watches or footballs and in exchange, women will kiss him.  Seems like a fair trade, as far as publicity stunts go.  However, the women in the crowd are turning up the heat on Mr. Zevallos, by throwing panties at the popular politician!

It’s kind of crazy, isn’t it?  Not just to me, but to Zevallos himself.  “It was spontaneous, I didn’t ask for them, but then I saw a pair of yellow ones, and then another woman threw another pair at me,” he said, blaming his fervent supporters.  “I don’t know if this will stop, it’s really crazy here right now.  The people love me,” Zevallos said in the understatement of the year.
