I’m a big fan of Woot. While I don’t always buy their deals, because usually they sell out by the time I wake up, I’m always a follower of their deals and generally am a fan of their liquidation practices and extra-cheap prices. So was Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, as his billion-dollar company just swept in and bought out Woot. The plan is that Woot remains as funny as ever, and Amazon simply becomes the financial backer/owner of the independently-run subsidiary. At least, that’s the serious part I was able to extract from Woot’s hilarious blog post about the purchase deal.
While Woot says things won’t change, I think they’re changing already. What was today’s Woot deal? Well, it just so happens to be the Amazon Kindle. The latest generation of Amazon’s awesome e-reader, no less! I guess selling thousands at Christmas wasn’t enough; now they want to sell millions in a Woot-Off of epic proportions!
