I’ve never heard of The Window, but the comic strip about the adventures of the two cats Sam and Maze is very popular among the residents of Lafayette, Indiana. Basically, artist Ryan “Bids” Bidlack takes some of that window paint and draws a new strip in the windows on the corner of Fifth and Columbia Street. The comic strip in window form became a window-sized proposal method as Bids aided Lafayette resident Joe Broussard in his quest to marry girlfriend Shayla Snyder.
“I live two doors down and we walk down every week, every time we’re in town and it’s usually something pretty funny. I was sitting watching TV and it just kind of popped into my head,” Broussard said. He contacted Bids on Facebook and, one day, there was the proposal.
Snyder, for her part, was gobsmacked by the unusual proposal. “I thought, maybe he knows someone named Shayla. But my name isn’t that common. So, I thought, maybe it’s me. I thought it was a joke at first,” Snyder said. “I was completely shocked. I had no idea.”
Fortunately for all involved, she said yes. It could have gone a lot worse.
