It’s an odd thing to complain about, yet residents of Beatrice, Nevada have been so offended by a mannequin that they forced the police to talk to the shop owner. What’s so offensive about a big hunk of plastic? Well, it’s a mannequin with shoes on, but its pants are down around its ankles. The indecent mannequin flasher was in the window of a boutique called Hannah’s Treasures.
Cue the lawyers! “We’re not able at this point to issue a determination whether it’s obscene or not,” said Beatrice city attorney Tobias Tempelmeyer. Dustin Garrison, the lawyer for Kevin Kramer, owner of Hannah’s Treasures, responded with a much-needed dose of reality: “Nothing about a naked mannequin constitutes obscenity,” he said to the Beatrice Daily Sun. “I think we’ve all gone into a department store and seen a naked mannequin at one point in our lives.”
As for the store, it’s in the process of closing and moving from Beatrice to Lincoln, Nebraska. Hence the pantsless mannequin. The store’s owner said he is willing to compromise and dress the mannequin in a bikini (at least until the store finishes its move).
