All it took was one double, and a 14-year drought was broken. During last night’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann’s key double in the ninth inning scored three runs, and that was all the National League needed to both tie and win the game 3-1 last night in Anaheim, California. This is the first National League victory since 1996, the longest drought in MLB All-Star Game history.
The NL’s win is also a huge deal for the remainder of the season, as it gives whoever wins the National League pennant the home-field advantage in this season’s upcoming World Series. While it’s still a few months away, that’ll be crucially important as that means it takes the AL’s biggest weapon, the Designated Hitter, off the field more often. It also means the NL winner’s fans won’t have to resort to such crazy means to get to the big game.
