It’s the deal of a lifetime. A would-be customer walks into the Women’s Center Thrift Store in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A few minutes of haggling and $5 later, they walk out with a fully-loaded, 2-year-old Dell Inspiron laptop! Sweet deal, huh? Yeah, sweet deal for everyone but the thrift store’s manager, who owns the computer that was accidentally sold for five bucks.
Sandra Bechthold, the store’s manager, says she had to work off-site. She left behind one staff member and a group of volunteers to run the store. When she got back from her day’s work, her laptop was gone and the store was $5 richer. A volunteer sold the used laptop for that amount, thinking it was an empty computer with no programs on it (she’d seen a similar unequipped computer sell for a sawbuck). Unfortunately for Sandra, that computer was her work computer; she’s offering a reward/buy-back price for the return of her accidentally-sold laptop.
