Two years ago, Facebook had 100 million users. Now, Facebook has surpassed the 500 million user mark, thanks to unprecedented growth both at home and abroad (but especially abroad). The end result of this massive user base is some very interesting statistics. While Facebook can’t tell us who lucky number 500 million was or any details about them (and they don’t get a prize), the number is a symbol of just how well Facebook has grown and how it continues to swell.
This thing is unstoppable. Facebook’s 100 million users from two years ago is nothing; consider the fact that the social networking service has added 100 million new users since February! The company’s biggest growth area? Internationally, of course; some 70% of Facebook’s members reside outside America. Not bad for what was originally a closed-off service most people couldn’t log into!
“It has changed in a lot of ways,” says Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. “Instead of looking at Facebook as a tool to look up other college students, you really feel like you can look up almost anyone in the world.” And if you’re Clive Worth, you use Facebook to hook up with almost anyone in the world, even if they’re already married.
