When you’re paying $5.80 for a sandwich, it’d better be one freaking good sandwich. Henrik Ulven, a 52-year-old Norwegian, was flying on a Ryanair flight from Berlin to Oslo when he encountered problems with the service. First, one hot meal was unavailable. Then, a second hot meal was also not available. Frustrated, he ordered a standalone chicken premium sandwich from the stewardess. When he got a rubbery, disgusting mess, he flat out told the attendant he refused to pay for such a crappy, inedible meal, so when the plane landed at Rygge Airport, Ulven was arrested for not paying for his food.
“I first ordered a hot meal which they didn’t have and then I asked for a second hot meal which they didn’t have either,” he told the Irish Independent. “I asked the girl what they actually had and I ordered a ‘chicken premium sandwich’, which cost €4.50 and was supposed to have been ‘freshly made’. My money was in my jacket in the overhead locker so I told her I would pay her when I was able to get up again. The sandwich looked nice and healthy but when I tasted it, it was soft and rubbery and nothing at all like it looked in the photo. I called the girl and said I was not paying for that.”
To be fair, the stewardess did tell him she’d have to tell authorities that he refused to pay, but bad food is something no airline passenger should have to put up with. Granted, it is a budget airline, but still! At least give the guy ONE of the many available meals if he asks for it!
