It’s not a combination that is normally seen, but it’s happened enough to get a name. When a zebra father has a baby with a donkey mother, the end result is what is called a zedonk. It only happens in wildlife preserves, which makes it very rare, so the zedonk baby born in captivity at the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve in Dahlonega, Georgia, has been making news. Just look at how cute it is!
The preserve’s founder, C.W. Wathen, says that the zedonk is displaying the instincts of its zebra father, rather than its donkey mother. She sits up, rather than lays down, as if looking for predators, like fellow hybrid animal Hercules the liger or a coyote/dog chupacabra hybrid, in more of a zebra fashion. The newest critter to join the Chestatee family will join the rest of the animals in roaming the park in about two weeks.
