As a mother of two boys, Wendy Foley is used to doing laundry. Lots of laundry. So, when she went to the washing machine and saw what she thought was a snake, she dismissed it as some kind of kids’ toy or a prank or something. After all, the laundry had been going and the washing machine had completed a cycle, surely nothing could live through that, right? Wrong. As it turns out, there was a 5-foot-long corn snake in the washing machine!
“I opened the glass door at the front and I saw something. I took it be part of a pair of jeans and then I wondered if it was a toy snake that children use,” said Mrs. Foley. “But then it poked its tongue out at me. It was horrible and quite big. It was just lying there on the washing. I don’t know if it had been through the complete cycle or not. I screamed and screamed – I was terrified.”
That was the injury part. As for the insult? When she called the police, they didn’t believe her and accused her of making a prank phone call. Her second stop, the RSPCA, didn’t send out someone to get the snake until the next day, no doubt thinking she was pranking them, too! Fortunately it was a corn snake, and not a poisonous or dangerous snake.
