Do you have a fancy new Cadillac Escalade? I don’t, and a lot of other people don’t, but they’re also one of the most wanted cars in the world. That might explain why the Cadillac Escalade tops the list of cars most frequently stolen, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute’s theft claim frequency list. According to the list, 10.8 of every 1000 Escalades gets broken into or stolen every year!
The Escalade has topped this list every year since 2002, which is the year the Caddy SUV debuted. The Chevrolet Silverado and the Dodge Charger are in second and third place, respectively. Not included is the Ford F-250, which is technically a medium duty pickup truck. (If it was included, it would have taken second place from the Silverado. Or, perhaps, stolen second place.)
Interestingly, this list only covers cars within the last three model years, so these are cars with the latest and greatest in anti-theft technology getting ripped off at such a high rate. I wonder how different the list would be if you included all model years of the Escalade since 2002. This is why I prefer a nice, reliable used car.
