If you’ve finished all there is to do in the World of Warcraft and you can’t wait for the next expansion pack to come along, then Blizzard’s got a hot new game you can go blind over while playing it obsessively. It’s Starcraft II, the most popular real-time strategy game in the known universe, and everyone from Terrans to Protoss have picked up a copy in the last few days. Starcraft II has sold a staggering 1.5 million copies in 48 hours.
Starcraft II sold an incredible million copies during the first day, and another half-million the second day. That makes Starcraft II easily the fastest-selling RTS game of all time, and it’s all thanks to Blizzard’s plan to sell it pretty much everywhere all at once. Most companies drag releases out over months, but not Blizzard.
“We launched Starcraft II in 11 different languages and on five different continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one,” said Blizzard Entertainment co-founder Mike Morhaime. “We’re pleased that so many people around the world have already picked up a copy of the game, and we look forward to welcoming even more players to Battle.net in the weeks and months ahead.”
