There’s no better way to get yourself on the map than attempt to set a world record. If you can do that, then you instantly get your name in the paper and all over the Internet. Hence, when clothier Walter Sinnhofer wanted to draw attention to his business, which is making traditional leather shorts called lederhosen, he set the Guinness World Record for making the smallest shorts, at 38 millimeters in length. Five years later, he’s gone in the other direction, making the world’s largest pair of lederhosen.
Sinnhofer, who runs a lederhosen shop in Henndorf, Austria, has turned out the world’s largest pair of lederhosen, a 15-foot tall pair of leather shorts that are 4 yards wide. It took him two months to carve the shorts from 77 yards of cow hide. The final product weighs a staggering 121 pounds!
They’re too big for the world’s tallest man, that’s for sure. He’s a bit too thin to fill them out; however, if he has a few giant bottles of wine and a few 210-pound hamburgers, maybe he can fill out and properly wear those goofy leather shorts they love in the Alps.
