Warren Buffett is one of America’s richest men. Also, he’s one of America’s most charitable men. After the recent announcement that Buffett convinced his billionaire friends to donate half their fortunes to charity, you can also call him one of the world’s most influential men. Buffett, whose philanthropy is legendary, tag-teamed with equally legendary charity maven Bill Gates to convince a passel of super-rich men including Oracle founder Larry Ellison, media baron Mike Bloomberg (also New York City’s mayor), and founder of the Fox and USA broadcasting networks Barry Diller, to give away their cash either during their lifetime of after their deaths.
“It’s far more important that they tell people what they’re doing,” Buffett said of his desire to take his list public. “It will influence other people 20, 30 years from now.” So far, he’s convinced 38 people to join him in his crusade to give it all away. Here’s hoping he lands all the Forbes top 100 richest people to join up with his crusade and REALLY make the world a better place.
