When the food world starts to tinker, they do so with two mindsets. One, they want to far surpass anything a normal person might cook, like when they invented the Double Down or the Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt. Two, they want to make their food as much like real food as possible. That’s the rationale behind Taco Bell’s new Cantina Tacos, which strive to be nearly like authentic Mexican food. Specifically, those delicious tacos you can get off the back of the Mexican lunch truck.
“Our Cantina Tacos are based upon authentic-style Mexican street tacos, which are designed using simple, fresh ingredients, that customers regard as high quality,” said David Ovens, Chief Marketing Officer of Taco Bell. “Not only are they a great-tasting addition to our menu, and one that was mainly found in Mexican-style restaurants, but they’re also a great value that we know our customers love from Taco Bell. Great taste AND great value, now that’s a deal!”
For $1.49, you can get a fire-grilled chicken, carne asada steak, or shredded pork taco topped with cilantro, onion, and lime on a fresh tortilla. While it doesn’t sound exactly like a truck taco, and definitely won’t be as good, it does sound like it’s far ahead of the standard Taco Bell fare. Isn’t that improvement enough?
