I’ve known several sets of identical twins in my life, and unless they took great pains to not dress alike and to have different looks, I’ve always had trouble telling them apart. Especially just on the surface, some identical twins are impossible to differentiate between. That’s the problem faced with the police in Niagra Falls, New York. They have two twins in custody, and they’re not sure which one is the murderer and which one is innocent.
The harder part is that there is even a witness to the crime. The witness picked one of the twins out of a police line-up, but used the name of the other twin in the identification. Both twins tested positive for gunpowder residue on their hands and clothing. The two brothers, Edward and Raymond Nickens, both 31, also both wear goatees and dressed identically for their court appearance; the only way to tell them apart is by looking at their distinctive tattoos.
So, what do you think the cops should do? I say charge them both with the murder and see if one cracks and implicates the other one in an attempt to get out of jail. If they don’t crack or they both throw their brother under the bus, then go with the one that got named, not the one that got picked out of the line-up. That seems like a better way to implicate the shooter.
