Hey, remember swine flu and how we were all supposed to die from the H1N1 variant of the flu? Everyone from Santa Claus to the family dog were clamoring for the vaccine. Remember how, generally, nobody died from H1N1? Well, World Health Organization officials have gotten with the times and have officially declared the swine flu pandemic over. Hooray?
“As we enter the post-pandemic period, this does not mean that the H1N1 virus has gone away,” WHO director Margaret Chan told reporters in a telephone briefing. “Based on experience with past pandemics, we expect the H1N1 virus to take on the behaviour of a seasonal influenza virus and continue to circulate for some years to come.”
Fortunately, we still have massive stockpiles of swine flu vaccine… oh wait, officials let it all expire. Never mind. Everyone, it’s safe to resume not caring about swine flu. Thank you for your time and attention.
