The Empire State Building is one of New York’s most enduring landmarks. The massive Art Deco-style skyscraper has been a fixture of New York City’s tourism campaigns since it was built in 1931 and is one of the best-known buildings in the world. There’s a reason tourists want to visit it. However, with all that traffic comes an issue: the Empire State Building is infested with bedbugs.
Well, not the whole building (that we know of). One of the employee changing rooms in the basement is epicenter of a bedbug infestation, which is only the latest in a long line of New York City bedbug infestations to make the news lately. Of course, the building maintains it was only a small portion of the building, and that the infestation has been eradicated now, but it remains to be seen if they were able to clear the bugs out.
“Like so many other buildings in New York City, the Empire State Building had a small incident of bedbugs,” the building said in a statement. “The occurrence was specific to a uniform storage area in the basement of the building. The area has been treated and fully cleared.”
And if you believe that, then I’ve got a deed to the very same Empire State Building to sell you! Still, it could’ve been a lot worse, like the infestation of stink bugs in Baltimore.
