On the surface, it seems as though it’s a simple misunderstanding, but a Lakewood, California, man named Al Stults Jr. has been banned from his local Safeway for a year over what he says was a misconstrued comment about chicken breasts. He maintains that when he said, “I like them large,” he wasn’t talking about the heavyset female employee behind the deli counter; he says he was merely stating his meat preference to the person selecting his chicken from the tray, not referencing her bra size.
Still, the conflict got Stults what is called a trespassing notice, which police spokesman Steve Davis explains as the following: “Mr. Stults faces absolutely no criminal charges. We issued him a trespassing notice, which is a civil type of thing. When a business would rather someone not come into their place of business, we can issue these notices that ask a person not to come back for a period of one year — and if they do, then they can be charged with trespassing.”
Still, Stults is angry, even if Safeway maintains that they were right in ejecting the abusive, profane, perverted old man from their store. I doubt either side is blameless in this incident, to be honest. I’ve worked in retail; people do crazy things.
