One of the most interesting new developments in recent times is the idea of pet insurance. Every time you take a pet into your home, you’re taking on several thousand dollars’ worth of vet bills that come along with pet ownership, so it kind of makes sense that some company would put out health insurance for pets, and that people should use this pet health insurance when their dog does something crazy. When Ellie the Labrador Retriever ate a pesticide-laced beehive full of thousands of dead bees, her owners never knew their unusual insurance claim would win their dog a prize.
Ellie won the bronze ham trophy, a basket of toys, and some dog treats for having the most unusual pet medical insurance claim from the Veterinary Pet Insurance Company in what is kind of a Darwin Award for dogs. She beat out a terrier that bit a chainsaw and a border collie that ran through a window to get to the mailman for the dubious honor. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, right?
“Ellie may be a young dog, but she’s already managed to eat everything from wooden toy train tracks to laptop computer keys,” said the VPI in their press release praising Ellie’s hardiness. “So the beehive in the backyard was just another culinary adventure for this insatiable pooch.”
