For over 400 years, a volcano known as Mount Sinabung has been peaceful. Thousands of people in Indonesia moved into the shadows of the mountain, which is on the island of Sumatra, in the northern portion of the island. Those same thousands of people are now looking for a place to flee to, as Mount Sinabung has woken up after 400 years of quiet with a series of ground-shattering eruptions.
“This is the first time since 1600 that Sinabung has erupted and we have little knowledge in terms on its eruptive patterns,” said Indonesia’s leading vulcanologist. basically, while scientists figure out what’s going on, the volcano is going to continue belching ash and pouring forth lava for the foreseeable future. Then again, even if they knew the eruptive patterns of the volcano, they couldn’t stop it. Look at the Iceland volcano; that thing shut down air travel for weeks and nobody could do anything about it!
