Out with the old and in with the new. Like pretty much every President before him, Barack Obama is going to change how his office looks, no matter how much it costs or how bad it might look to the rest of the country to be spending an estimated $20,000 on new wallpaper when the economy is sputtering and millions of people are looking for work. Hence, Obama took the time to completely redecorate the Oval Office from top to bottom.
Strangely enough, all the work seems to have been done by New York state companies. The wallpaper is hand-made striped wallpaper from Amagansett, the paint for the trim is Benjamin Moore paint custom-mixed by Donald Kaufman Color, and every stick of furniture, from the couches and lamps to walnut-and-mica coffee table and Obama’s new brown leather desk chair, was hand-made by New York-based craftsmen. The only furniture remaining from the Bush administration are the two mahogany armchairs by the fireplace, and even those got reupholstered.
The only non-New York piece of new furnishing is the Michigan-made rug, and that was a donation. Still, the rug really ties the room together. Now he just needs some awesome office supplies to decorate the top of that desk.
