Ladies, are you tired of marching into a combat zone, laying down a stream of machine-gun fire, and slaying America’s enemies while looking like you’re wearing a camouflage potato sack? Well, you’re in luck. While you’ll still be in camouflage, at least your uniform will fit you a little better as the US Army has announced that they are designing new uniforms for female soldiers with the goal of improving the fit, look, and functionality of female military uniforms.
Women make up 15% of the US Army, and until now, they’ve been stuck with the same cut of uniform that men wear, despite the fact that, as every stand-up comedian once said, “Women be different from men.” Said Brigadier General Peter Fuller in an interview with Army Times, “We need to ensure our women are wearing something they are comfortable in, and it doesn’t make them look like their uniform doesn’t fit.”
There’s also a component of functionality to the 13 new sizes of blouse and trouses, cut for different chest, waist, sweep, and hip dimensions. “The ACU was designed for a male,” said Sgt. 1st Class William Corp, modernization non-commissioned officer for Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment. “A man typically has broader shoulders. So when a woman puts on the jacket, the shoulder pockets are more toward her back. This is one of the things we’re looking to correct.”
New look, better killing potential? Sounds like an upgrade to me!
