Anysha Panesar is a little nontraditional for beauty pageant girls. There’s no giant mop of blonde curls, and her teeth look refreshingly Vaseline-free. Still, she’s a looker, as she’s won quite a few beauty contests in her time. Her most recent title is America’s Most Perfect Teen, which would be great if she was an American; however, America’s Most Perfect Teen 2010 Anysha Panesar is actually Welsh.
Amazingly, this win is just fine with the rules of her pageant, which don’t have any residency requirements. She entered the pageant on a whim while on vacation in Florida and to her own shock, she won. “I didn’t think I would win because I’m British so, when it got to me and one other person, I thought I was going to come second. Then they announced the first runner-up and I began walking forward before I realised it wasn’t my name.”
While some people don’t like it, pageant founder Michael Galanes says those haters can just stew in silence. “Yes, her win caused a bit of a stir because she is, of course, British. But that is perfectly within the rules of the competition and those people are just naysayers. One of the judges told me they liked Anysha because she was a breath of fresh air. She has natural beauty but she isn’t afraid to be a bit wild,” said Galanes, also the founder of the Perfect Little Miss toddlers’ pageant.
So a girl from Llangan, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales is America’s Perfect Teen. That seems oddly appropriate. Welcome to the Melting Pot.
