While Japan might have a problem with missing centenarians, America keeps track of its older people, and they keep in touch with everyone else. Widely believed to be the world’s oldest living man, Walter Breening is turning a hale and hearty 114 years old. Not only is he having a birthday, he’s celebrating with a big party at the Rainbow Retirement Community in Great Falls, Montana, where he’ll be giving a speech to the assembled dignitaries! The world’s oldest man’s birthday guests include Montana governor Brian Schweitzer and officials from the Guinness World Records organization.
Want to know how old Breuning is? Well, he was born in 1896, when the Presidential debate was between William McKinley and William Jennings Bryant. Since his birth, he’s seen 5 new states added to the US and has lived under the reign of 20 different US presidents. He was an employee of the Great Northern Railroad for a staggering 50 years (and which merged with a bunch of other railroads in 1970). Breuning’s wife Agnes died in 1957.
