Atlanta traffic is the worst traffic I’ve ever driven in. While I’ve never tried to negotiate New York City’s snarled streets, when it comes to the spacier and more laid-back South, there’s no city worse than Atlanta, where the drivers are crazy, the congestion is terrible, and the commutes miserable. A little known secret is that no one actually lives in Atlanta, everyone just lives AROUND Atlanta and drives in, so when a plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta during rush hour, it was misery for everyone involved.
The Piper Saratoga was forced down on Monday afternoon by mechanical problems. Miraculously, the plane’s pilot, Matt Conway, landed the plane without hitting any cars. However, the landed plane caused traffic to back up for several miles, as the plane blocked all four lanes of the expressway right at the 5 PM rush. Surprisingly, nobody beat Conway in the midst of a road-rage outburst.
