Well, of all the disaster scenarios in the world, the one that’s least probable is probably the idea of an east coast earthquake. California and the west are used to being rattled by geological catastrophes, but New York City? Not so much. Imagine my surprise when a 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook things up off the coast of Long Island, near Southampton, New York.
There was no damage reported, and the quake wasn’t even really that bad by earthquake standards. Plus, it was 80 miles off the coast, not right under Long Island, so it wasn’t a huge deal and only troubled two or three residents, according to Southampton Town Police Sgt. Andrew Ficurilli. Still a New York earthquake would be a disaster. They seem pretty able to handle normal disasters like fire, tornadoes, or the fire tornado, but do you think anyone in New York knows what to do in an earthquake?
