Fear not, Auburn Tigers fans. The War Eagle will continue to soar unfettered by NCAA violations. The NCAA, the governing body for college sports, has declared that Auburn Quarterback Cameron Newton is eligible to play this season. That means, at least for now, Auburn can breathe a sign of relief and take its rightful place in the national championship game with a victory over South Carolina.
It’s very weird that the NCAA made a decision on Cameron Newton’s eligibility so fast, isn’t it? I mean, it took forever for them to decide on punishment for Reggie Bush and USC, and Yahoo broke the news of those violations months before the NCAA took them seriously. Yet they’ve gotten enough information on Cecil Newton in a few weeks to decide that Newton didn’t know his own father was looking for money from schools and that he was eligible to play? It seems awfully suspicious, considering we’re a few days away from the SEC Championship game.
“The conduct of Cam Newton’s father and the involved individual is unacceptable and has no place in the SEC or in intercollegiate athletics,” said relieved SEC commissioner Mike Slive. “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.”
