WikiLeaks has been under attack lately, and I’m not just talking about attempts to arrest founder Julian Assange or losing its hosting account with Amazon. The former WikiLeaks URL, wikileaks.org, has been taken down by domain name provider EveryDNS.net after a series of direct denial of service (DDOS) attacks on the WikiLeaks server by hacktivists. WikiLeaks is moving to a Swiss-hosted domain name and it is moving WikiLeaks hosting into Swiss web hosting company Bahnhof’s underground server facility in a former nuclear bunker. The new URL is at www.wikileaks.ch.
WikiLeaks is taking no chances with its security! They’re changing domain names AND data hosts? They’re burying their servers in a nuclear bunker and taking their entire operation out of the United States. What’s next, encrypting the pages entirely? Laser cannons? Hermetically sealing Julian Assange inside a bullet-proof bubble dome?
Yeesh, this whole business is getting messy. Governments are taking these leaks seriously, and WikiLeaks is taking the threat to its security seriously in turn.
