Disney was late jumping on the Facebook bandwagon, not officially maintaining its Facebook pages until August 2009. However, when Disney got on Facebook, they got on Facebook in a big way. The company adds 5 million new fans per week across its 200 active pages, and those numbers are only going to continue to grow. Recently, Disney celebrated a milestone when the Disney Facebook empire celebrated its 100 millionth Facebook like on Walt Disney’s 109th birthday.
Disney celebrated not with cake and ice cream, but with a celebratory video. It trumpets just how quickly the Disney Facebook movement gained steam, and just how successful the company has been during its short time as an active Facebook user. I’m very impressed at how many pages Disney maintains, though I wonder how many of those pages/fans/likes are legacy likes added when Disney bought Marvel.
That’s a whole lot of Facebooking; I hope that whoever Disney has in charge of their Facebook operation has good spelling and grammar skills.
