In the Czech Republic, there’s a problem. The population has become increasingly mobile, with more and more drivers hitting the roads, but the budget for stoplights hasn’t increased and speeding is becoming a problem. Cash-strapped officials have come up with a novel solution to stop the speeders: life-sized cardboard cutouts of sexy police officers in high heels, miniskirts, and reflective vests. Sexy cardboard cops are patrolling the streets of the Czech Republic, and drivers are taking note.
Personally, I think something that’s going to distract speeding drivers is probably a bad idea. Then again, what do I know? According to officials in the central Czech towns where the life-sized fakeshave been put up, it’s working. Drivers see the uniform and instinctively slow down, possibly to get a better look at why a woman in a miniskirt is standing on the side of the road in freezing weather and with snow around her ankles. (To remedy this seasonal strangeness, a local radio station in the town of Myslotin put hats and coats on their standee; the two items were quickly stolen by someone who legitimately needed a coat and hat.)
