You really have to watch out for cats. If they’re outdoor cats, the colder weather makes them a lot more prone to making poor decisions when it comes to seeking out heat and shelter from the bitter winter winds. See, for example, a cat named Giggs from Anglesey, England. Giggs was cold, so he snuggled up in the warmest place he could find: the engine block of owner Cieran Griffith’s Vauxhall Corsa. Giggs the cat survived a 30 minute trip to work while caught against a car’s engine block!
“I hadn’t thought anything about the fact that I hadn’t seen the cat before I left for work,” said Ms. Griffith, who works at Ysgol David Hughes secondary school in Menai Bridge. “A colleague said he’d heard a meowing noise coming from my car but I thought he was pulling my leg, until my mum sent me a text to say the cat was missing.”
Having learned nothing from his brush with death, 13-year-old Giggs was back on the engine block the very next morning. “My mum said she’d seen him near the car and for me to check. I didn’t think he’d do it again, but there he was, fast asleep. I’ve no idea how many lives he has, but that one journey must have used up at least three.”
I’m not sure what’s more impressive, that the cat lived through the trip, that the cat has lived to be age 13, or that his owner keeps pushing him out the door in winter when she knows he’ll probably just crawl right into her engine compartment again. Probably the last one, since she should know better and Giggs is just a cat.
