The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is an institution in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, the 26-year-old stadium was slated to host a game yesterday between the Vikings and the New York Giants. Unfortunately, that game didn’t happen because over the weekend, the roof of the Metrodome collapsed beneath the weight of a blizzard worth of snow.
The game has been moved, from Minnesota to Detroit’s Ford Field. Rather than having one NFL game on Monday Night, now there’ll be two. The Vikings and Giants will kick off at 7:20 Eastern time, while the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans game will kick off at 8:30 PM Eastern on ESPN. The Vikings game will be held at Detroit due to the amount of time it would take to prepare the University of Minnesota’s field for an NFL game; the NFL wants the game to go off as soon as possible, so it’s time to move it to Motown’s dome to stay out of the frigid conditions.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the Detroit area and wish to check out the game on Monday night, the NFL has announced that tickets to the Vikings/Giants tilt at Ford Field will be free. That’s right, a FREE football game thanks to the blizzard and the collapse of the domed stadium’s inflatable roof.
