There are a lot of strange laws out there, but the job of the police officer is to enforce those laws, no matter what. Part of those laws include writing tickets, which most cops don’t really enjoy but thanks to an unspoken (or spoken) system of quotas and ticket requirements, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Realizing he hadn’t met his ticket quota, a police officer from Bialogard, Poland named Sgt. Andrzej Tymanski gave himself a ticket.
Said Sgt. Tymanski, “I was not prepared to fine someone who had not broken the law just to meet the quota – so I walked on the railway line – and fined myself.”
Sgt. Tymanski gave himself a massive fine: $7.80 American (or 5 British pound). Of course, first he made sure he broke the law by walking on a railway line, then he gave himself his well-deserved ticket. I imagine it was a lot easier to do that than it would have been to find an actual lawbreaker, given how much effort cops put into writing tickets. Guys like Sgt. Tymanski give me some hope that not all police are awful people.
