Facebook is rapidly becoming the source for all things face-related. After all, Facebook owns a copyright to the word Face, so they’ve obviously got a vested interest in cornering the face market. The next step in Facebook’s evolution is, interestingly enough, face-recognition software. Facebook has developed face-recognition software that automatically suggests tags for pictures based off the faces captured in the pictures.
“Now if you upload pictures from your cousin’s wedding, we’ll group together pictures of the bride and suggest her name,” said Facebook engineer Justin Mitchell. “Instead of typing her name 64 times, all you’ll need to do is click ‘Save’ to tag all of your cousin’s pictures at once.”
So we’re all in agreement that Facebook is becoming Skynet, right? Face recognition software is one more step towards face elimination software, especially when combined with Facebook’s behavioral tracking system. All you have to do is upload it into a giant killer robot, strap a machine gun to it, and all of a sudden that face tag gets removed because the face is removed by a hail of machine gun bullets.
