Andrew Thomas Gallo is only 23 years old, and he may be spending the rest of his life in prison. He’s the lucky one. Gallo was over twice the legal limit for drunk driving, speeding, on probation for a previous drunk-driving offense, and driving illegally on a suspended license when he ran a red light and hit a car killing three people inside and leaving the fourth seriously injured in 2009. One of the people Gallo killed was Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Nick Adenhart, who was in his debut season in Major League Baseball. Andrew Thomas Gallo received 51 years in prison for killing Nick Adenhart and two others.
“Before drinking, set up a plan to have a sober driver,” said Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas via written statement. “If you make the decision to drink and drive, we will make the decision to charge you with vehicular manslaughter or murder and you may spend the rest of your life in prison. During this holiday season, think about the pain on the victims’ families’ faces before you drink and drive.”
I second this. No matter what you’re getting behind the wheel of, from a horse-drawn van to a lawn mower, be careful and be sober. If not for yourself, then for those around you.
