All 74-year-old Mohammed Bellazrak wanted to do was to get from his home in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, to the Gatwick Airport in London. The trip to the airport on December 23 went flawlessly, and his wife made her flight. The trip home was not quite as easy. Mohammed Bellazrak was stranded on the M4 for three days, driving back and forth in the snow.
Thanks to a combination of the blizzard, problems with his navigation system, and his thick Moroccan accent, Bellazrak couldn’t get anyone to give him directions back home. He had accidentally left his cell phone behind at home, so when he was officially lost, he couldn’t call anyone for help. He spent three days driving back and forth around London, always returning to the British capital to buy coffee and try to ask for directions. Fortunately, he’d packed cold weather gear in his car due to the blizzard conditions. He spent those three cold nights sleeping in his car.
“When I got home I was so glad, I was so happy and I was glad to be alive,” Bellazrak said last night after being rescued by police on Christmas day. “When I go to pick up my wife when she flies back to the UK, one of my sons is going to come with me to navigate. I will never go out without my mobile phone again. I blame my satnav for what happened.”
