You have to be brave to stand up to Mexico’s border area drug gangs. They’ve got all the money, power, and weapons they could possibly want; how could Mexico’s beleaguered police forces stand up to that? Well, long story short, they can’t. In the wake of an entire town’s police force quitting after their new station was riddled with bullets, a second town is now cop-free after their last police officer was kidnapped. Erika Gandara, a 28-year-old woman, was the last surviving cop in the northern Mexican town of Guadalupe until she was kidnapped by gang members.
It just doesn’t pay to be a police officer in Mexico. Since 2006, over 30,000 people have been executed in Mexican drug wars. It’s all about controlling those northern routes for moving dope across the border, and if the cops get in the way, well… you see what happens. I wouldn’t want to be this young woman right now, assuming she’s still alive. Whatever she’s going through, it’s not pretty. After all, the gang members burned her house, two of her cars, and then dragged her off.
It’s not going to end well for this young woman.
