The UBS company dress code was widely mocked when it was first released to the public. Containing guidelines determining everything from haircut requirements to skirt length, topics of conversation, and food choices, the UBS book was a massive 44-page item that was too large to be comprehended by all but the most dedicated employee. After its drubbing in the court of public opinion, UBS is relaxing its dress code, paring down the behemoth book to a manageable pamphlet-sized guide.
“We’re reviewing what is important to us,” said UBS spokesman Andreas Kern. He added, “People made fun of UBS, but it didn’t cause any damage to our reputation.”
People expect their bankers to be a little bit anal; perhaps it’s even recommended. However, when you’re telling employees what kind of underwear to wear and how to behave so as to give the appearance of being a super-professional robot rather than professional and human? That’s just being crazy. People don’t want to give money to crazy.
