It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Hollywood; awards season is in full effect. Thankfully, if you need an antidote for the back-patting and attaboys, consider checking out the 2011 Razzie Awards, which honor the worst crimes against cinema of the year 2010. Here’s the best of the worst of 2010 in the form of the 2011 Golden Raspberry Awards, AKA the Razzies. The Razzies will be handed out, in a sense, on February 26 at Hollywood’s Barnsdall Gallery Theatre.
That’s the night before the Oscars, and in a sense, that’s what the Razzies are all about. Hollywood loves to celebrate its best and brightest and conveniently ignores the huge amount of garbage and awfulness that rolls onto screens around the world year in and year out. That’s why I love the Razzies, it’s a thumbed nose in the general direction of Hollywood‘s self-congratulation industry.
Among the noteworthy nominees are M. Night Shyamalan’s 3-D turd The Last Airbender and the mopey teens of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. A much-needed new award was added this year in the form of the Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D. I love a good hate-fest, and I love the Razzies.
