Let’s be honest. The food you really want to eat at a Super Bowl party isn’t the healthiest. The only way most of us will eat crudites is if they’re plopped alongside a mound of hot wings. Or honey-BBQ wings, if that’s more your speed. But if you’re thinking about opening up a bag of Doritos or throwing a frozen pizza into the oven before the game starts, you’re really missing out. And so are all your guests. By making your own snacks, you can control everything from heat levels to the amount of salt, and even, yes, fat grams. Plus, homemade food almost always tastes better.
I know, I know. This is really short notice, but I promise you there’s still time to dig up a handful of recipes and get to the store. Cooking is a little bit of work, sure, but you don’t have to do it alone. Your friends probably won’t mind bringing things to the party. Some are probably planning on doing that anyway. And if you wanted to give them more incentive, you could challenge each of your guests to bring his or her best dish and turn the gnoshing into a contest. The recipe that gets eaten first is the winner! Prizes are optional.
So, what are you waiting for? Get up off the couch (you’ll have plenty of time to sit tomorrow) and get to the store, already!
That is, unless you’re waiting to see if you should call Papa John’s during overtime.
