Apparently, some people give away too many personal details in their dealings online. Not me so much, but safety while social networking is of crucial importance, as the human element is the most dangerous element when it comes to being safe in your Internet dealings. With that said, the watchdog group InSafe has declared that February 8 is Internet Safety Day, and the 2011 edition of Internet Safety Day focuses on safety while playing online games.
As it happens, online gaming is just as potentially unsafe as all other online activities. When I was a dedicated WoW player, I knew multiple players whose accounts were hacked thanks to downloaded add-ons for Warcraft and other little helpful mods that make playing the game significantly easier than the default UI does. For them, it was worth the risk to their hard-won goodies to have an easier way to play the game. For me, it wasn’t.
Be careful out there in your online dealings, folks.
