Despite being advanced in age, Henry Morello still lives on his own. As such, he comes and goes as he pleases. While coming back from his favorite restaurant in Cave Creek, Arizona, 84-year-old Henry Morello made a wrong turn on Interstate 17. To correct his mistake, he attempted to make a U-turn but missed his mark, sending his car into a ditch on the side of the road. Somehow, at 84, Henry Morello survived for 5 days while stranded in the desert after a car wreck.
How did he do it? Well, he improvised, for one. Stuck without food or water, Morello cracked open the windshield washer fluid container on his car and filtered the contents through a napkin to drink. He used floor mats for covering, as desert nights get cold. When he got bored, he read his car’s owner’s manual.
Somehow, he survived his ordeal relatively unscathed. He had mild kidney damage from drinking windshield wiper fluid, but that’s not as bad as drinking antifreeze. He’s tougher at 84 than I am at 29!
When asked if he learned any lessons from his ordeal, Morello said, “I’ll never drive without water.”
