When the New Jersey Nets failed to land Carmelo Anthony, the Nets ownership promised to remain active in the trade market. True to their word, they’re working hard at assembling an entirely new team before the trade deadline, and they’re going to build around an NBA All-Star and one of the top point guards in the league. The New Jersey Nets have acquired Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz in exchange for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, two first-round draft picks, and cash. In a SECOND trade, Jersey swapped Troy Murphy for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric from Golden State.
But that’s not all, kiddies! Other teams are looking to the future, too! For example, the Atlanta Hawks have swapped former All-Star Mike Bibby, Mo Evans, Jordan Crawford, and a 2011 first-round draft pick for Washington point guard Kirk Hinrich and forward Hilton Armstrong. Meanwhile, not to be left out, the worst team in the east, the Cleveland Cavaliers, have upgraded at least one spot on their team by trading for Los Angeles Clippers point guard Baron Davis, who goes east in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.
So, basically overnight, half the NBA has traded to the other half of the NBA. If you’re confused, I don’t blame you; I’m kind of confused myself, but that’s part of the fun of the NBA trade season!
