As we’ve established, Google loves any excuse to make a new logo doodle. Today’s excuse? International Women’s Day. However, Google is doing way more than simply creating a Doodle for women’s rights, they’re actually organizing and hosting a series of International Women’s Day events and rallies. You can find Google’s International Women’s Day events here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUF65dR08icAt the first International Women’s Day event, women’s rights protestors gathered at bridges to show their support of women’s rights and the plight of women everywhere. That tradition continues to this day. At the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Millennium Bridge in London, and the Grand Barriere Bridge in the Congo, women will be gathering to rally and show support. Plus, at other bridges, there are other events going to happen, so feel free to check in virtually or head on down yourself (if you’re close enough to a rally).
The Western world has come a long way in equality, what with Title IX and the ERA, but there are a lot of places not as enlightened when it comes to women and stereotypes persist.
