"For voting help, call 1-900-Mix-a-Lot? That doesn't seem right..."
People looking for help with their local voting place got an earful of the wrong advice. Rather than state workers discussions the location of polling places, they got adult entertainers discussing stripper poles. The Hoosier Voter Hotline given by the Indiana Secretary of State’s office during a Monday press conference was actually a phone sex line, leaving Indiana officials red-faced and scrambling to correct their naughty, naughty mistake.
“This is my mistake. I actually wrote down the wrong number,” said Indiana Secretary of State spokesman A.J. Feeney-Ruiz. “Human error.”
It’s an easy mistake to make, given that phone sex companies own a quarter of the 800 numbers available. The mistake was corrected within 35 minutes of the mistaken number being given out at the press conference, but by then the damage was done and the Elkhart (Indiana) Truth had broken the story. Still, the error was corrected eventually, and hopefully it was done without too many Hoosiers mistaking phone sex for voting help.
